Baking In Beauty

Name of Camp: Baking in Beauty Dances of Universal Peace.

Location: The group campground at Capitol Reef National Park.

Nearest Airport: Grand Junction Colorado Regional Airport.

Time of Year: Summer, dates vary.

Who Attends: All are welcome.

Weather: Temperature is usually between 80 and 90 degrees with nighttime lows in the 60's. Occasionally we have gentle showers in the afternoon.

Accommodations: Most participants camp in the group campground which accommodates up to 40 people. In the past, some participants have stayed at a nearby hotel.

Special Considerations: Only 10 vehicles are allowed at the site. All other vehicles will be parked nearby within walking distance. Cell phone reception in this area is poor and there is no internet service. There is a public toll phone at the park headquarters.

Special Features: The group campsite is a secluded site surrounded by spectacular redrock cliffs. It is within easy walking distance of the Fremont River and of the fruit orchards planted in this area by Mormon pioneers. Fruit in season can be picked for a nominal fee.

Camp Write-Up: This is an intimate gathering. We dance together, we camp together, we eat together. We go on hikes and play in the river and the creek. It is a time to sit in the shade of old cottonwoods with old and new friends and catch up on our stories.

There are many hiking trails near the camp. Some people like to scamper up on a ridge for their morning meditation. Others prefer ambling down a canyon with friends.

We have poetry readings and music jams and some time Kirtan. We dance in the mornings and evenings.
