DUPNA Youth & Next-Generation Page
One of DUPNA's 2011 Goals is to support and encourage our next-generation Dance leaders and dancers throughout the USA and Canada. This new Youth & Next-Generation Page presents resources that we hope will provide the tools you need to promote, inspire, and enliven your interest and enjoyment of the Dances of Universal Peace. Please return often as we will be adding new materials in 2012!
Youth-oriented Dance Camps and Events
Take a look around...Does your circle include some dancers or
Dance leaders in their teens, 20s and 30s? Would they be interested in attending a
camp where they could meet others in their generation? Many camps offer special
activities for teens, children, and young adults.
The gathering is for youth, young adults, and younger leaders in the Sufi Ruhaniat and Dances of Universal Peace, ages 18-39. It is hosted by the Sufi Ruhaniat Youth Council, a multi-generational group of mureeds and Dance Leaders who share a vision of supporting the next generation of leaders. Members of the Ruhaniat Youth Council are co-creating this gathering in order to strengthen their bonds as a group and to focus on how they can best hold the message and carry this transmission into the future. Anyone in this age range who would like to join this gathering of incredible, young, international Sufi and Dance leaders is welcome. This is a fabulous opportunity for any young person who loves spiritual practice, chanting, singing and dancing, or for any young person who is developing their own leadership skills or exploring spiritual modalities. To read more about the event visit www.sufiyouth.com: http://www.ruhaniat.org/index.php/youth-retreats/youth-colorado
If you are not coming to the event but are interested in supporting this vision, please make a tax-deductible donation to the SRI Youth Scholarship Fund by sending a check made to SRI, care of Basira at PO Box 22, Makawao, HI 96768, (please note the funds are for youth
scholarship) or by credit card through the donation page http://www.ruhaniat.org/index.php/support-sri/financial-support of www.ruhaniat.org. Contributions will be used to help Youth Council members make it to the event, whether they're coming from Prague, Bogota or Kansas City. The goal is to have $6,000 to support travel and scholarships.
Diana Lyon, one of the organizers of the event has said that an outpouring of love and support has been rippling through communities and circles in recent months and that she feels deeply grateful for this support. May it continue!
Giving and Receiving Support for Youth Attendance
Diana Lyon has suggested the following for supporting youth to attend Youth events:
To Provide Support:
1) Communities/Circles can raise funds locally to sponsor specific attendees of Youth Events. If the funds are for travel expenses, I suggest they be given directly to the individual to cover expenses. If the funds raised are for an individual's registration fees for the Sufi Youth Jam, the funds should be sent directly to Sara Rain.
2) Communities/Circles can raise funds locally to support scholarships/grants in general. These funds will be available to those who apply for support through the SRI Youth Scholarship Fund. This fund is well established and well known, and it is just as important to place support here as it is to encourage local-level sponsorship. These funds should be sent to the Ruhaniat Secretariat, Basira Beardsworth at P.O. Box 22, Makawao, HI 96768 with the note "youth scholarship"
To Receive Support:
1) An individual wishing to attend can be sponsored by their local community. We've found that a good approach for this is a letter written by a leader and the youth articulating the need, saying a bit about themselves, including a photo, etc. and sent to the local community to solicit support, followed by a collection process within the community. (Write to Diana for more support and details around how to do this.)
2) An individual wishing to attend can apply for scholarship through the SRI Youth Scholarship Fund. The application for scholarship can be found at www.sufiyouth.com in the Scholarship section: http://www.ruhaniat.org/index.php/youth-scholarships/youth-apply. This fund is well established, and we've already begun to receive applications for support.

Survey for Young Adult Dancers and Dance Leaders Ages 18-40 years old
The Dances of Universal Peace have the power to transform lives and allow people to "discover" their "tribe." One comment we often hear when people talk about their first experience at a Dance camp is "I felt like I'd come home." Dances of Universal Peace North America would like to make this opportunity available to younger spiritual seekers within our community, so we would like your feedback about our co-sponsoring a Dance camp geared toward young adults and younger Dance leaders. This survey will help us know what you (the younger seekers amongst us) desire and hope for such a gathering.
If you are between 18-40 years old, please click here to complete this survey for a young adult gathering.
If you are older than 40 years old and wish to give your feedback, please click here to email DUPNA intern Jen Friedman.
Please also forward this information to any young Dance leader and/or younger dancer who is between the ages of 18-40 years old. Please copy and paste this link to the survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/XH6XCS9
Thank you and Ya Fattah!
The New Sufi Ruhaniat Youth Website
The Sufi Ruhaniat has a new website www.sufiyouth.com, created by and for youth, teens, young adults, and younger leaders. This site will serve youth who are already connected into the lineage as they travel the path, and those who are newly reaching out to connect.
One of the features of the site is regional leader and youth contacts throughout the world. Another aspect of the site we're particularly excited about is having information and applications for the Youth Scholarship Fund online. This will streamline the scholarship application process, both for applicants, and those of us serving on the Scholarship Committee. Please spread the word about it!
